Solace Pet Loss Ireland was set up in 2008 to provide support for individuals and families who are suffering the loss of a pet through death or disappearance.

Animals have the capacity to love us unconditionally. Anyone who has loved an animal knows how unique this bond is. Unfortunately, we live in a society where there is a stigma attached to grieving for an animal and when people lose a pet they often hide the true extent of their grief for fear of being ridiculed. Feelings of sadness, anger and guilt are all perfectly normal and it is important to express these emotions to come to terms with the loss. It takes time to adjust to life without an animal companion that has been an important part of your day-to-day living.

If you have suffered the loss of a pet or are preparing for the difficult task of euthanasia, please do not hesitate to contact Pet Loss Ireland and we will endeavour to provide you with the information that you need.

If you would like to talk, please call Annie: +353 87 3879938 and leave a message. Annie will get back to you as soon as possible. (There is no charge for this service)

The death of her dog, Toby, prompted Annie to set up this service.

"Toby was a cross-breed rescue dog. He was a great companion to me. I got him when I was in my 30's, and when he died I was in my 50's. It was like the loss of a good auld pal." Faithful Departed (Irish Times 16.02.2008).

Since the work of Solace began, we have faciliated a number of pet loss workshops under the auspices of the Irish Hospice Foundation (IHF); collaborated on the publications of a leaflet called "Grieving the Loss of a Pet", sponsored by Allianz Pet Insurance and co-written an article "Grief and Loss" for the Irish Veterinary Journal.
